Saint-Emilion, gourmet destination

Saint-Emilion, a place to enjoy gastronomy

Inspectors awarded 70 new stars in the Michelin Guide France for 2017, revealed at a ceremony in Paris on February 9th. Several Bordeaux château owners had reasons to celebrate.

The Logis de la Cadène restaurant in St-Emilion gained its first star. Logis de la Cadène is one of St-Emilion’s oldest restaurants. The Michelin star will be a welcome endorsement for Boüard de Laforest family, owners of nearby Château Angélus, who acquired the restaurant in 2013. It is also a fillip for the restaurant’s 29-year-old chef, Alexandre Baumard.
Château Pavie, which was upgraded alongside Angélus, also saw its Hostellerie de la Plaisance restaurant upgraded from one star to two.

Last but not least, there is Les Belles Perdrix, who maintains its 1 star. Owned by and adjecent to Château Troplong Mondot, this restaurant benefits from an exceptional location high up in the rolling vineyards of Saint-Emilion.

In 2017 the small and charming medieval village of Saint-Emilion offers no less than 3 Michelin-starred restaurants. It is time to come and discover!

B&B Bleu Raisin is situated at no more than 15 minutes from all of these the restaurants. Waking up with a view to the vineyards is all you need to complete your journey to the Bordeaux region: https://www.bleuraisin.com/en/

Bordeaux selected as Top Travel Destination 2017 by Los Angeles Times

Bordeaux, which straddles the Garonne River in southwestern France, is a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its wine and food. And the city’s attractions are multiplying. In the last three years, at least four river cruise companies have added Bordeaux itineraries.

Waterfront redevelopment and a growing tram system have improved downtown, allowing the city’s many 18th century buildings to shine more brightly.

La Cité du Vin, a museum devoted to the history of wine, opened in 2016. And as soon as July, a new LGV high-speed train line from Paris is expected to cut travel time from three to two hours.

How an old winery became a bed&breakfast: the story of Bleu Raisin

By |2016-12-20T20:22:52+01:0011 March 2016|Latest news, Special offers|Comments Off on How an old winery became a bed&breakfast: the story of Bleu Raisin

Creating a bed&breakfast in France

On April 9th 2011 we opened the doors of our brand new bed&breakfast near Saint-Emilion in the Bordeaux wine region. Only a few more weeks to go and we will be celebrating our 5th anniversary! Reason enough to look back on the creation of Bleu Raisin…

Creating a bed&breakfast in France is something many people dream of, but never try to give it a shot. Six years ago, we decided to take a step into the unknown and start building our dream.

We gave up our jobs, sold our house and went looking for that special authentic spot in the Bordeaux area. Being wine lovers, we fell for the picturesque area around Saint-Emilion, with its small winding roads, rolling vineyards and of course… delicious wines! And there it was… A former winery with an old barn,  in need of a huge amount of TLC, but with a stunning view of the surrounding vineyards and châteaux.

After 6 months of getting to know the area and the people, and thoroughly renovating the barn and part of the house – a 24/7 job with lots of ups and downs -, we managed to be ready for the Easter holidays in 2011. And so it was that 5 years ago, on April 9th, we were proud to announce the opening of our own guesthouse.

Now, 5 years and numerous guests later, we still enjoy the result of our hard work. Still making improvements every year, we try to offer a home away from home to travellers. We are proud to be able to welcome people from all over the world. No less than 32 different nationalities have already visited our bed and breakfast and all of them have their own story, their own culture.

Proud of all this and looking forward to continue the same way for the next few years, we like to share this joy with you. Planning to come to France this spring? Come and meet us and we will be happy to offer you a special discount for our 5th anniversary. Read more: https://www.bleuraisin.com/en/special-offers-packages-gift-vouchers/

Bordeaux: 2nd Best Wine Travel Destination 2016

By |2016-12-20T20:22:52+01:001 March 2016|Uncategorized|Comments Off on Bordeaux: 2nd Best Wine Travel Destination 2016

Saint-Emilion – Bordeaux – best wine travel destinations in the world

Bordeaux: 2nd best wine travel destination 2016

Bordeaux is the 2nd most visited city in France, trailing only Paris.
With beautiful architecture, a thriving restaurant scene, new shops and tourist developments, travelers find strolls through the medieval streets or along the riverfront a joy.

And there is the renowned wine of course. Both in the city itself and in the surrounding areas you can enjoy the best of what the Bordeaux region has to offer. Staying on the right bank of the river Garonne, east of Bordeaux, you will find the medieval gem of Saint-Emilion. Many of the wineries and stately châteaux open their doors to you, so you can get a glimpse of the life between the vineyards and learn more about the making of the famous Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé wines.
Next to Saint-Emilion, another worldwide known village… Pomerol, with its renowned Château Pétrus and Château Le Pin. And going a bit further down the area, other appelations like Saint-Georges, Puisseguin and many others are waiting for you to be discovered. By car, by bike or just walking through the vineyards and villages.

The Bordeaux region should be on every wine lover’s list of places to visit at least once. But why not more than once? There is so much to discover.
Even if many people come here to see and taste the most famous wine brands in the world (the “classed growths”), that is just the tip of the iceberg. You should not miss all the smaller producers that represent more than 90% of the total production. Go visit some of the not-so-famous châteaux and you will get a quite different welcome than at the big-and-famous. The smaller wineries are often family run and don’t get all that many visitors. And the reception will be all the better for it, more personal. You might even get to tour and taste with the winemaker and/or the owner of the winery.

B&B Bleu Raisin is situated at a stone’s throw from Saint-Emilion, offering you an ideal starting point for all your visits and excursions. We will be more than happy to give you tips and help you around to get the utmost of your holiday in the Bordeaux region, one of the best wine travel destinations in the world.
